Update on Sammie
November 25th, 2008 by Larry D. Burton
I stopped in to see her for a little bit this evening. They had a splint on her right front leg to keep her from messing with the IV catheter and had sedated her. Other than that she seemed fine and happy to see me. If the nausea and diarrehia is gone I can take her home tomorrow.
We came up with another possibility that is a lot more palatable to me than thinking this was from the stress of me being gone for a couple of weeks. She may have poisoned herself with toilet water. My wife has begun using those little chlorinated toilet cleaning tablets in the toilets and this may be the cause of Sammies problems. She isn’t beyond drinking from the toilets and I’ve caught her in my son’s bathroom recently drinking from his toilet.
We try to keep the lids down on the toilets because of this but my son isn’t as careful about this as my wife and I are. This vet visit is going to cost me close to $400 so he is going to start being more careful about dropping the lid in the future.

I am very sorry to read about Sammie’s sickness. I hope she recovers quickly. That is a problem about the toilet water. Lucy would die if she encountered that danger, since she prefers toilet water to her water bowl.
I hope your wife was not injured in those falls. Barbara does not walk Lucy for just that reason. Last December one such pull down left Barbara on crutches for a few days.
Have a good Thanksgiving, I hope Sammie is able to enjoy it, too.
Ouch. We bought a little carbon-filtered continuously running fountain for our cat. She ignored it. We’re back to letting her drink out of the toilet.
