A few years ago I spent some time in San Diego working on a project. At the end of each day I’d leave the worksite and drive to the top of Mt. Soledad where I would spend about thirty minutes just admiring the view and winding down.
This is really a beautiful place and it feels like the type of somber and peaceful place that a war memorial should be. I did a lot of thinking and reflecting while visiting there. The cross just seems to be a big part of that feeling.
Now a judge has ordered the cross to be taken down. Yeah, it’s been a long time in the making and, in a pedantic sense, I understand why this should happen. Still, that cross is more a landmark and a piece of history now than it is a religious symbol. I hope it gets a reprieve.
