Driveways

Steep, steep driveway.

A co-worker just sent this picture to me. Since my driveway is almost but not quite as steep as this one it gave me a chuckle. It also reminded me of a gripe that I have with new home design. It seems that what folks will do with vehicles is always an afterthought.

I’ve seen a few houses designed lately that have a third garage door that is only about six feet wide. This is the intended storage space for lawn mowers, bicycles and other things that you would like to have in a garage but you either leave a car outside to do so or you build a utility shed to house them. Unfortunately I’ve only seen these on upper end homes.

For the life of me I can’t understand why more thought isn’t given to the garage. All too often the garage is too small to get in and out of anything larger than a subcompact and the driveway is a nightmare to negotiate. Like the picture here all too often I see excessively steep driveways or a side entry garage with no room to turn into the garage.

More on stupid zero tolerance

Okay, what do you call Jell-O shots with no alcohol?

The answer is “Jell-O”.

In Jefferson Parish, Louisiana an 8-year-old gets suspended for bringing Jell-O to school. She brought enough for the entire class so it wasn’t because she didn’t bring enough to share because she brought thirty individual containers of the snack. No, the reason she was suspended was because the containers she was serving them in resembled the Jell-O shots you can get in some bars.

The girl was suspended for nine days for two violations of the system’s drug policy: having a “look-alike” drug on school grounds and intending to distribute it, Nowakowski said.

I wonder what Bill Cosby has to say about this?
