Being offended for fun and profit.
I’m beginning to grow weary of people being so easily offended by all forms of race based humor. While I can completely understand anyone being offended by derogatory racial remarks racial remarks in an attempt at humor that have no derogatory message at all should not require apologies.
Colorado Gov. Bill Owens apologized for saying “the natives are getting restless” during a conference on tribal gambling.
Owens made the remark at the Western Governors’ Association Summit after a participant’s microphone wouldn’t work and he urged it be fixed quickly. Some attendees told the Rocky Mountain News the audience fell silent, then groaned and chuckled.
I don’t see any derogatory usage in the Govenors quip. However, Ricard Milanovich took offense.
Richard Milanovich of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians in Palm Springs, Calif., said he “couldn’t imagine” any person of stature making that kind of remark.
Come on now, Richard. The only reason that I can see for getting offended at the Govenor’s remarks would be to embarass the govenor for your own political gain.
