The Supreme Court Nomination Blog

I was hoping that we could go one more year but with Justice O’Conner announcing her retirement there will be a fight this year over the next Supreme Court appointment. The court and this country will be at a loss with her retirement. Whoever is appointed will determine the way of the court for the foreseeable future. A handy reference for understanding what is at stake in the upcoming Supreme Court appointment is The Supreme Court Nomination Blog. People, keep an eye on this. Your future freedoms count on it.

I have bookmarked this site. My cursory reading of it leaves my non-legal mind a bit challenged. The importance of the issues covered make me want to overcome my limits, though.

One of the reasons I voted as I did in the 2004 presidential election was concern over SCOTUS appointments. So many issues touching on personal freedoms are under consideration right now that I am very concerned at Justice O’Connor’s retirement.

I am afraid I have no faith whatsoever in the constitutional statesmanship of George W. Bush and his administration.

I will be paying close attention.

Bush has stated he is looking for an appointee who is an originalist in the same vein as Scalia and Thomas. I can handle an originalist like Thomas but I don’t see Scalia as being the orignalist he claims to be. He seems to be more selective on when to apply his stated doctrine than Thomas. Thomas seems to be pretty consistant, relative to other justices, on applying his doctrine.

I’m with you, Larry. I may not always agree with Thomas, but I can often see where he’s coming from. Scalia scares me.

I should also note that many of us are bemoaning the loss of a Reagan appointee for who might replace her.
