No, Don’t Call on Darwin
Pat Robertson is making headlines again. This time he seems to be upset that the citizens of the town of Dover, PA turned out every school board member that was up for reelection that had voted for the inclusion of the theory of Intelligent Design in the school district’s science curriculum. Now Pat thinks that the town should be on the lookout for some natural disaster.
Now, I personally subscribe to ID in that I believe God put things in motion with the knowledge that things would turn out the way he planned but I’ll be the first to admit that ID is not a scientific theory. You can’t test for God. God demands faith. It would be good if people like Pat understood this.
Still, it’s this quote that has me annoyed with Pat Robertson:
“God is tolerant and loving, but we can’t keep sticking our finger in his eye forever,” Robertson said. “If they have future problems in Dover, I recommend they call on Charles Darwin. Maybe he can help them.”
It’s that second sentence up there in the quote that bothers me. If you have problems always call on God. Calling on Charles Darwin would be calling on another god. Pat doesn’t need to be suggesting that people break the first commandment.
